I had a dream I lived in California, back in 73’ when the air was warmer.
I wave to my neighbours in the canyon, living their lives with reckless abandon.
Oh to be back there.
The music in the air.
The warmth of the sun.
Harmonizing with everyone.
I drove around in my 66’ Chevy, spewing out words like “mellow”, “outta sight” and “heavy”.
I got all my shopping done in a shop called the ‘R..-R...’.
The owner said he was famous but I reckon he was bluffing.
And I remember the feeling of walking down the canyon, an alien out of time I walk with no companions.
I think of the future, my own time and where I’m lying. A field in the twenty-somethings my longing’s purifying.
And oh to be back there.
Amongst trees that melt the air.
The shadows in the sky.
The warmth to stay inside.
The blanket on the ground.
The starlings circling round and round.
The girl on the mountain steep.
Maybe I’m still sound asleep?
